What is solar Power? 


Solar power is the resultant conversion of sunlight into electric current via the use of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels. Additionally, it can be heat energy that’s generated from solar thermal systems, which concentrate sunlight into receivers to heat water.

What is solar electricity? 


Photovoltaic (PV) systems convert sunlight into electricity that can be used to power your home, office or industrial facility. Today’s solar electric technology can be harnessed to either supplement power supplied by Electricity Board or to take you completely off-grid from the Electricity Board. Off-grid systems use battery back-up systems to store power. I-AS design systems that best fits our customer’s needs towards their power needs and affordability.

What are the different types of solar panels?

There are three main types of solar panels available. These are: monocrystalline, polycrystalline and thin film. Each has its own advantages. I-AS Solar are all mono-crystalline or poly-crystalline as they are the most efficient and require the least roof space.

Here is some more detail about each type of solar panel:

Mono crystalline (mono crystalline c-Si) 
These panels are a proven technology that has been in use for over 50 years. They have the highest efficiency, meaning that fewer panels are required to produce a given amount of energy. They have a very slow degradation, generally losing 0.5 - 0.7% per year.

Poly crystalline (poly crystalline c-Si) 
These panels are similar to mono crystalline panels, but the silicon used is multi-crystalline which is easier to make. Their efficiency is slightly or partially lower, however their performance does not get affected at higher temperatures making them suitable for use in Australia. 

Thin film 
These panels have a lowest efficiency, so the panel is typically nearly double the size than the other panel varieties. Research is continuing to improve the performance of thin film panels and to refine the manufacturing process. Thin film panels tend to perform better than crystalline panels in non-perfect conditions - such as in places like Europe where the sun’s irradiation is weaker and where there are more cloudy days than here in Australia and India.

Does the temperature affect output?

The amount of electricity a solar PV panel can generate is reduced as temperatures increase. Solar panels operate best at ambient temperatures up to 25°C. However, if the ambient temperature is higher, the panel’s output declines. I-AS panels has a special “Hydrophobic” coating which is a heat resistant and more light absorbent.

Can solar energy lower my electric bill? 


Yes, Solar panels are used to convert the suns energy into electricity that can be used by your home or business. The panels are connected to an inverter. This inverter connects to the electrical main panel board, which allows your facility to utilize the electricity, when the sun shines. When the sun sets, the system isn’t producing electricity, and then you use the power from the electricity board.

What is the energy payback time for mono / Poly crystalline panels?

The energy required to produce solar PV panels will be offset within 3.5 to 4 years, depending on your climate zone (and level of sunshine) that the panels will produce.

Considering our I-AS solar panels are warranted to perform for 25 years, there is at least 27 to 30 years of free clean energy to be produced from your solar system.

How often do I need to clean the panels?

Panels in time do get dirty however with regular rainfall, these should clean itself. Fortunately I-AS panels are “Hydrophobic coated” (Hydro means ‘water or moisture’ and Phobic is ‘against’) which will prevent the moisture to deposit on the panel hence the dirt or dust deposition will occur very minimum and in cases where there is little rainfall also the panels will be cleaned by itself or a garden hose can be used to clean.

How do the panels stand against the weather?

The panels are designed against winds and hail. The panels can sustain hail with a diameter of 25mm falling at 80 km/h. (About a golf ball)

The mounting structures are designed and fitted to withstand wind speed of 140Kms.

Where are they mounted at what angle and their effects?

The panels are mounted preferably on your South-facing roof for optimal output, however SE and SW are also acceptable. Also purely E and W are also okay, however these will have lower outputs. There has to be a minimum of about 15 degrees tilt.

What about shading?

It is okay to have minimal shading, however if there is shading for most of the day this maybe non economic to progress. 

Where will my solar system be installed?

The solar panels need to be mounted on the South facing roof or similar to get maximum sunlight hours. 

How much does a residential solar system cost? 


The cost of a solar system depends on the size of the system that is built and installed to your house. It is important to know what size the solar panel system is, how much electricity will be produced, and the price per watt. Each solar system will produce different amounts depending on how good the design is, what shading could reduce the systems daily production, and where the solar panels are on the earth. Each geographical region and even location is going to receive different amounts of sun. After all of this is calculated, then you can make an educated decision on what size of solar panel system you need and want based on your energy demands and budget. Also, renewable incentives, tax offsets, depreciation schemes reduce overall cost of a PV system.

How long do solar panels last?


Solar panels life expectancy is more than 40 years.

How much maintenance is required? 


I-AS solar systems require less maintenance and service if the owner strictly follows guidelines. In most cases, these guidelines require owners to not adjust, maintain or repair the systems themselves. When it is battery-connected system, regular maintenance to the batteries will as per I-AS instruction guidelines is required.

How do I get incentives from the government or utility company? 


Programs from state, Central, MNRE, and all other subsidies have been announced but take a very long time to process and have lot of practical difficulties to claim. To facilitate the customers, I-AS will offset most of the subsidiaries and charge only the balance net amount with an aim to accumulate and claim from the government.

Can I get an installment payment plan? 


I-AS don’t offer any financing options but will help you find the financing plan that best meets the customer’s needs with the banks.

What happens if there is no sun that day?


All solar panels require sunlight to produce solar power. Lack of sunshine limits the solar energy potential of any solar energy system. However, some of the sun’s solar radiation will penetrate clouds to generate electricity. But will be less based on the intensity of the light.

Will a solar panel get destroyed during a storm? 


I-AS have engineered the panel and its mounting structures to withstand high wind loads meeting the standard  

How long does it take to install a solar energy system? 


The professional I-AS crew can install most home systems in 1 or 2 days. Installation follows a thorough site survey and engineering review. Larger commercial or business installations can take longer depending on size, complexity and special mounting.

Does a solar panel need to be on my roof? 


For most home installations, the roof is the optimum placement for solar panels which are unobstructed by trees or other shade-producing structures, facing toward the south and able to be securely attached. If the homeowner has adequate yard space and/or many panels to be installed, I-AS can review the option of ground mounting.

Do I have to angle solar panels at the sun all day long? 


Solar panels are installed in a fixed arrangement. They typically don’t move to track the sun during its movement through the sky. Mounting the panels to face south at the proper angles enables them to capture and collect the maximum amount of solar energy during the day.

Can I adapt solar power systems for my business? 


Due to higher incentives and rebates for businesses, solar makes just as much if not more sense for business owners. Add in the depreciation factor for a solar energy system capital expense, and the financial incentives become even more attractive.
